Fairy tales - the diorama

There was once ...

Do you know the story of Little Red Riding Hood? And that of the wolf and the seven kids? They are exciting stories that can't happen in real life. We call such stories fairy tales. They often start with "Once upon a time..." You can hear that they are about a long time ago. Most fairy tales were created a long time ago. Not for children, but for adults. In those days there were no books, there was no TV or computer. People told fairy tales to each other. And they loved listening to it.

Hokus, pokus, pass ...

In fairy tales, magic is often called upon to bring the story to a successful conclusion: witches and fairies can do magic with their magic wand and a spell. Many animals and items are also enchanted.

A villain...

In many fairy tales there is a villain: an evil stepmother, a witch or a mean animal such as the wolf. The bad guy usually ends badly. Someone who is nice usually gets it better. Fairy tales make us think.

Fairy tales around us ...

In the past, people could not read or write. They told the fairy tales to each other. These were later collected. In Belgium, the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are especially known. Gradually, fairy tales from other countries also come to us. You can get to know fairy tales not only through books. There are also many films and performances about fairy tales. There is even a park where the fairytale characters and their houses have been recreated. Walking through the park is like stepping into a fairytale yourself.

In Germany - where the Brothers Grimm originated - there is also a fairy tale route to discover the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.
